No! Please do not mix the paint with water.
The premium acrylic paints included in your kit are formulated to be the perfect consistency and are 100% ready to use straight out of the pot. You do not need to add any water, mediums, or thinners to start painting.
Here is what you need to know about water and your acrylic paints:
1. Water Ruins the Coverage (The Watercolor Mistake)
Many beginners confuse acrylic paints with watercolors. If you add water to your acrylic paint pot, or if you dip a wet brush into the paint, the paint will become thin and transparent. If the paint becomes transparent, it will be impossible to cover the black printed numbers and lines on your canvas.
2. What is the cup of water for?
You should definitely have a cup of water on your table while you paint, but it is ONLY for washing your brushes.
- Whenever you finish using a color, or if you want to take a break, vigorously swirl your brush in the cup of water to clean it.
- Crucial Step: After washing your brush, you MUST dry the bristles completely on a paper towel before dipping it into the next paint pot. A dripping wet brush will accidentally water down your fresh paint!
3. The ONLY Exception: Reviving Thick Paint
Because acrylic paint is water-based, it can naturally thicken if exposed to the air for too long. The only time you should ever add water to your paint pot is if the paint has become sticky or dry.
- If this happens, add 1 to 2 tiny drops (no more!) of warm water into the pot and stir thoroughly with a toothpick. This will bring the paint back to its smooth, buttery texture without ruining its opacity.
💡 Pro Tip:
To keep your paint at the perfect consistency, remember to close the lids tightly (listen for the "click") every time you switch colors. Never leave multiple pots open at the same time!
