Choosing the perfect size for your Paint by Numbers kit is the first step to creating a stunning masterpiece. Whether you are buying a pre-designed kit or creating a Custom Photo kit, this guide will help you make the best decision!
1. Our Standard & Most Popular Size
Our most popular size worldwide is 16" x 20" (40x50 cm).
- It offers the perfect balance between painting time and detail.
- It is very easy to find standard, inexpensive frames for this size at local stores like IKEA, Walmart, or Michaels.
2. General Size Chart (Inches & Centimeters)
- 12" x 16" (30x40 cm): Best for kids, beginners, or very simple designs with large color blocks.
- 16" x 20" (40x50 cm): The industry standard. Great for single portraits, pets, and most landscapes.
- 20" x 24" (50x60 cm): Highly recommended for photos with more details or 2-3 people.
- 24" x 30" (60x75 cm) & Larger: The ultimate choice for complex landscapes, family portraits (4+ people), or highly detailed architectural photos.
3. Crucial Tips for CUSTOM KITS 📸
If you are purchasing a Custom Paint by Numbers Kit, please pay attention to the following:
- Rule #1: Bigger Size = Better Detail.
Paint by Numbers is basically a pixelated version of your photo. The larger the canvas, the more "pixels" (paint cells) it has, resulting in a much clearer and more realistic painting. For highly detailed photos, always go one size up! - Rule #2: Match the Aspect Ratio.
- If your original photo is a Square (e.g., Instagram photo), please select a square canvas size like 16"x16" (40x40cm) or 20"x20" (50x50cm).
- If you upload a long rectangular photo but choose a square canvas, our designers will have to crop out important parts of the background to make it fit.
4. Frame Options Explained
- No Frame (Rolled Canvas): The canvas comes rolled in a protective tube. You can frame it yourself after finishing.
- DIY Frame: Includes wooden stretcher bars. You will assemble the frame and stretch the canvas yourself using thumbtacks (super easy and fun!).
- Pre-Stretched (Ready to Paint): The canvas is already professionally stretched tightly over a wooden frame. You can start painting right out of the box and hang it immediately when done!
