We understand that some of your most precious memories might be captured on older cameras, or you might only have a printed photo from years ago.
However, we must be completely honest with you: Our design software is not magic. The final painting will only be as sharp as the original photo you provide. The software cannot "guess" or create details (like eyes, noses, or hair texture) if they are not clearly visible in the original image.
If you are worried your photo might be too blurry, please read the following guide:
1. 🔍 Try the "Zoom Test" on your phone
This is the easiest way to check your photo! Open the photo on your phone and zoom in on the main subject's face.
- Pass: Can you still clearly see the lines of their eyes, the shape of their nose, and individual teeth if they are smiling?
- Fail: Does the face turn into a fuzzy, pixelated (blocky) blur where you can't distinguish the eyes from the cheeks?
- The Rule: If it looks like a blurry blob when you zoom in on your screen, it will be a blurry blob on your canvas.
2. 🚫 Stop using Screenshots and Social Media downloads
- Please never upload a screenshot of a photo.
- Avoid downloading photos from Facebook, Instagram, or WhatsApp. These apps heavily compress images, destroying the high-resolution details needed for a Paint by Numbers kit.
- Always try to find the original digital file directly from the camera or the original phone that took the picture.
3. What happens if I still want to use a blurry photo?
We completely understand that sometimes a blurry photo is the only photo you have of a loved one who has passed away. You can still use it, but you must adjust your expectations.
- The final painting will not be a sharp, realistic portrait.
- Instead, it will have a soft, "abstract," or watercolor-like effect. You will be able to recognize the person's overall shape, posture, and clothing colors, but they will likely not have clear facial features.
Need us to check it for you?
If you only have a blurry photo and want to know what it will look like before spending your money, please email the photo to service@paintsuper.com. Our designers will run it through our software and tell you honestly if it will make a good painting!
